Nordship 40 DS Standard Specification:

Boat and equipment are built according to EU guidelines for CE certification and approved to Category A-ocean.

Hull and deck

Hull and deck

Hull and deck is hand laminated. The Dark blue sheerline and waterlines are moulded into the gel coat. Sandwich construction, including deck and superstructure is used down to the reinforcement frame where the hull is solid. The Hull and deck is bonded and bolted. The lead keel with its composite shaft is bolted to the hull with stainless steel bolts. GRP Rudder with Aluminium rudder stock. The hull below the waterline is treated with Epoxy primer and antifouling.

On Deck

Teak on side decks, cockpit sole, cockpit seats and bathing platform. A robust and solid teak toe rail ensures safety along with an integral laminated non slip surface. Stainless steel grab rails mounted on deck saloon roof. On the forward cabin top is mounted an integrated self tacking system for the jib, 3 skylights and 2 Dorade ventilators. Windows in aluminium frames with ‘Securit' glass in the deck saloon. Skylight mounted in deck saloon. 6 heavy cleats integrated in the toe rail. Guardrail, pulpit and pushpit in stainless steel. anchor, bow roller and 30meters of chain. Anchor locker in foredeck with space for a 1000 watt anchor winch. Bathing ladder on platform is also included.


Cockpit is divided into 2 sections; the forward sectionis absolutely free of ropes and lines and gives comfort-able seating for 6-8 persons. From the forward cockpitsection access is made to the deck saloon via the companionway, which includes a sliding acrylic hatchand a folding door in teak. On the port side of theforward cockpit there is access to the large cockpitlocker / workshop (also accessible from the aft toilet)In the aft cockpit, is mounted the steering pedestalwith wheel covered in leather, rudder brake, electricalthrottle and a compass. Behind the wheel there is also a large locker under the aft seat. The engine controlpanel with rev. counter and alarms is mounted in the coaming. All sheets and halyards are led back to the helmposition and are controlled by the 2 x Andersen ST46winches. The lead of the lines, from mast to cockpit ishidden under the coach roof and pass throughindividual continuous stainless steel tubes to ensure nosnags and wear or tear by friction. On the bridge deck between the 2 cockpits, the traveller is mounted. Bothcockpits are self draining.

Mast rig and sails

Silver anodised mast with 9/10 rigging and 2 sets of spreaders. The mast is stepped on deck and supported by a steel compression tube from the deck to the keel. The boom is fitted with outhaul, rod kicker and 2 reefs. On the mast there is a winch for the genoa halyard. The main halyard and the reefing lines are lead back to the genoa winch through pipes in the superstructure. Backstay with mechanical backstay adjuster. Furling jib with the furling line lead back to the cockpit and self tacking system. Fully battened main sail. All bottle screws have bronze barrels to avoid binding. Windex fitted in mast top.


4-cylinder Fresh water cooled Volvo Penta Diesel D2-55 55HP with sail drive fitted and 3 blade fixed propeller to ensure smooth and low vibration running. Fitted with a Fuel and seawater filter. Effective sound insulation with rubber plate with lead and over that a foam also with lead inside. The whole insulation is protected against dirt by an aluminium foil. Good access to the engine room from all sides. Engine control instrument with rev-counter acoustic alarms, start and stop, is mounted in the cockpit. One hand gear and speed control is fitted on the steering pedestal. The engine is served by a 375 Litre fuel tank in stainless steel.

Electric system

12 volt system with 100 AH engine start battery and 3X 100 AH auxiliary/general use batteries. Isolated circuits. Master switch and control panel with fuses, voltmeter, 12 volt socket and gauges for water, fuel and waste tank. 115 AH 3 phase generator charge level control on engine. 220 volt shore connection with50 AH charger, Fuse Indicator test panel, and 3 x 220volt sockets and 220 volt heating for hot water. Lighting throughout the boat. Halogen spots in the headlining, reading lamps, working light in galley and chart lamp. International compliant navigation lights, steaming light, anchor light and deck light. Combined Speed and echo sounder.

Water and waste water

Heat exchanger on the engine and 220 volt shore power provides hot water. Electric pressurised water to sinks and shower. 2 x 200 Litres freshwater tanks in stainless steel. 90 Litre Waste tank with vacuum drain in deck or draining into the sea via seacock. Electric shower drain (over board) and electric and manual bilge pumps.

Interior Finish

Top quality mahogany in Matt finish varnish. Panelled doors and locker doors with solid frames. Floors in matt varnished teak on ply with inlaid bright stripes. Ceiling cover in white leatherette with mahogany inserts. Choice of high quality upholsteries. Curtains /blinds to all side Windows and skylights.

Deck Saloon

To port the deck salon has a large U-shaped sofa around a spacious dining table, which is raised to ensure, a panoramic view trough the extensive windows while seated. Below the table is an integral bottle storage. Under the raised floor is storage in a drawer. To starboard there is a large chartable with switchboard and space for numerous instruments. An internal helm position is offered optionally. At the chart table there is offered a height adjustable chair, which can be lifted off its bracket and used at the saloon table while docked in a harbour. Cupboards and storage abound.


To starboard forward of the saloon, there is a large longitudinal galley with white work surface, gimballed oven with 2 burners. Double sink with hot and cold pressurised water, 110 litre build in refrigerator with mahogany veneer door trim. Lots of drawers and cupboards, of which one is laid out for the storage of plates, cups and glasses for 6 persons, which is also included.

Fore cabin

The fore cabin includes a large double berth. Aft of the berth there is a hanging locker. The hull is panelled with horizontal solid mahogany stripes. Above the berth on both sides there are cupboards and shelves. In the roof there is a large skylight with blind.

Guest bed

To port of the galley area is access to an exceptionally comfortable guest bed built under the seats of the deck saloon. Large hanging locker and lot of storage.

Toilet compartments

2 x toilet rooms with bulkheads in white laminate. One in the front, between fore cabin and the guest bed-room and one in front of the aft cabin to the port. Doors and trim in mahogany, and Corian on the floor. The forward toilet room is equipped with marine w.c. and wash basin, the aft one is further equipped with shower and automatic shower drain. From the shower there is access to the cockpit locker/ workshop, where the hot water boiler are placed.

Walk way to aft cabin / evening saloon / Library / Snug

The through fare to the aft cabin provides an excellent retreat providing armchairs, library shelving and drinks cabinet to the starboard side of the evening saloon. The drinks cabinet creates 2 arm chairs, but can be lifted clear to create an excellent sea berth for when one passage. To the opposite there is an additional armchair and the engine box, which can be used as a table, over the engine there is a fine place for a television.

Aft cabin

A luxury "owner's cabin" with a large double bed and access from both sides. Many cupboards and lockers provide storage. The hull is panelled with horizontal solid mahogany stripes.
